ABSTRACT
First, it should be made clear that when teachers use per formance assessment, they don't stop using traditional forms of assessment. Tests will always be with us, and they should be. It is frequently important to ascertain what students know about a subject; alternatively, we must be sure that they have read an assignment. There is no substitute for a quiz or a test to ascertain these things. But as a steady diet, tests have seri ous limitations. These are described below.
