ABSTRACT

The purpose of a school schedule is to assign teachers and students to courses and classrooms during the school day. Typically, a school schedule has been defined as six or seven periods of equal lengths of time with additional time for passing and lunch. The traditional school schedule is a product of the factory model, and the traditional school year reflects an agrarian mindset. Western civilizations think in terms of monochromatic time, i.e., one thing is done at a time. Classes are separate entities. Teaching is accomplished in classrooms by teachers working alone.
