ABSTRACT
Watching children report to kindergarten on the first day of school is instructive. They arrive with a great deal of excitement and anticipation. It is a indeed a special day in their lives; it is a day for which they have waited a long time. Certainly there is some trepidation and even a few tears, but the overwhelming effect is positive. The children see school as a place to add quality to their lives. Nine years later the same children arrive at the high school. Some come with the same enthusiasm and motivation to learn. But for many, school isn’t fun anymore.
