ABSTRACT

Cooperative learning strategies can provide different modes of learning. Lecture is still important, but it is not all that is done; shorter times of lecture are interrupted by having students work in pairs or small groups, discuss ideas together, check one another's understanding, and share conclusions with other groups and pairs in the classroom. Often, in a cooperative classroom, when an idea is presented, every student responds verbally to someone else, and many times students move around the room to discuss and gather information. Varying the modes of learning can increase the effective-

ness of the learning environment, while making learning more fun for everyone.
