ABSTRACT

Another concern for teachers changing to a form of block schedule is the issue of short-term and long-term retention of material. Teachers often believe that to be remembered new information must be practiced daily. Those working in an alternate-day schedule sometimes wonder whether new learning will be affected negatively. For those involved in the 4/4 semester schedule, the concern is more likely to be the ability of students to retain

information over time; students may complete a subject such as Algebra I in a semester and may decide not to take another math course until the following year.
