ABSTRACT

As of the printing of this book, forty-five states and four territories have adopted the Common Core State Standards. Even if you are not an educator directly affected by the Common Core, you should still be interested in this chapter, as standards, no matter how or by whom they are written, should be a foundation for Authentic Learning Experiences. Additionally, regardless of what your thoughts may be about a “nationally created curriculum” (as some critics call the Common Core), there is no denying that upon further study, the Common Core is fundamentally about raising the expectations for students in preparation for both college and career demands in this era.
