ABSTRACT
Building mathematical vocabulary is essential, not just for English Language Learners but for all students. Vocabulary is the foundation upon which mathematical understandings develop. Precise use of mathematical vocabulary, symbols, and notations is foundational to successfully implementing all of the Standards for Mathematical Practice. This activity involves students representing their understanding of vocabulary words, phrases, and symbols. The idea was adapted from a lesson shared by Julia Hayes, Newport News, Virginia.
