ABSTRACT
Even young mathematicians can recognize and build upon prior strategies to make connections between mathematical ideas. They can then apply these connections they have made to new problems and tasks they encounter. Teachers of elementary children of all ages need to provide rich, diverse tasks that will help their students make these connections.
