ABSTRACT

What does it mean to listen actively? Listening is more than the physical act of hearing words. As G. K. Chesterton said, “ere’s a lot of dierence between listening and hearing.” Listening is your effort to hear and understand what others are saying. When you listen actively, you understand the total message, including the meaning beyond the spoken words. Listening can be developed, practiced, and rened. When you are a good listener, you help others talk and share their feelings. You help them gain clarity about problems they are having, and you help them nd their own answers. When you are a good listener, people want to talk to you.
