ABSTRACT

Leaders who are focused on building trust with others recognize the importance of communication skills. is need to have good communication skills is not a new idea. For example, James urber (1961) wrote, “Precision of communication is important, more important than ever, in our era of hair-trigger balances, when a false or misunderstood word may create as much disaster as a sudden thoughtless act” (p. 44). Leaders must consider the variety of tools available for communication. Should one talk in person, telephone, send a letter, use e-mail, or text? Certainly, today’s immediate communication tools have the capacity for improving communication in many ways, as these methods can be quick and convenient. ese newer modes can improve access to information by reaching a greater number of people. However, electronic media also increase the possibility of immediate miscommunication.
