ABSTRACT

Leaders who want to boost trust in their schools understand that leadership is needed at every level of the school. In other words, while the principal is the main leader in the school, if he is the only leader there will surely be problems. Leadership must be present at every level. However, it is not enough to recognize the importance of leadership at every level . . . more important, leaders must understand that the individuals at their school have the capacity to fulll leadership roles when given opportunities. German philosopher Goethe phrased it this way: “If you treat an individual as he is, he will stay as he is, but if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and what he could be.”
