ABSTRACT

Plan I shows how to provide additionallearning time with periodic remedial interventions in mathematics. This plan has been adopted and implemented successfully at a number of middle and high schools across the nation. Plan II offers options to be applied when a large number of students fail a grade level. We show how a cohort of eighth or ninth grade students who have not met the standards for promotion to the next grade can complete the failed courses during the first semester and move to the next grade level for the second semester. In Plan III, we share a number of options in which we stop the regular schedule periodically to provide time for instructional interventions for students who are having difficulty keeping up, and to offer enrichment for students who are mastering the content in a timely fashion.
