ABSTRACT

A simple way to increase teaching time and reduce many of the management problems associated with moving thousands of high school students in hallways throughout the day is to create an AL TERNA TE DAY BLOCK SCHEDULE. The plan creates few political issues, and its major cost is the staff development needed to assist teachers in developing teaching strategies appropriate for longer instructional blocks. The alternate day block schedule is often a "first move" or transitional step from single instructional periods. This scheduling plan is also referred to as a "Day 1, Day 2" or an "A Day, B Day" schedule.
