ABSTRACT

School districts all over the world are coming online with data warehousing. This chapter relates the stories of five real school districts—Chilton Public Schools, Chilton, Wisconsin (Enrollment=1,350); Columbia Public Schools, Columbia, Missouri (Enrollment=17,200); Northview Public Schools, Grand Rapids, Michigan (Enrollment=3,340); San Jose Unified School District, San Jose, California (Enrollment=32,000); and Tyler Independent School District, Tyler, Texas (Enrollment=17,480). The stories of two multi-district consortiums, in Connecticut and Vermont, are shared for insight into what it takes to pull together a data warehouse and use it to improve teaching and learning. Also, note that a different type of solution (zone integration) is described in Chapter 8 for Western Heights Public School District in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The names of specific data warehouse, assessment, and student information system companies have been removed to remain vendor neutral.
