ABSTRACT

School and school district personnel ask me all the time to help them create a culture for data and data warehouse use in their learning organizations. They look at me expectantly, as if I could give them the definitive steps that overnight would establish a culture to effectively use data and a data warehouse every day. I wish I did know the magical steps that could quickly establish a data culture. I wish it were so easy. There are no magical steps; there are some necessary and logical steps, however. It is the culture of the organization (which includes leadership) that will ultimately determine the use of data. Let’s look at some of the issues involved in creating a data culture.
