ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how Big River High School created a school improvement plan, using the data gathered and analyzed, to close their gaps and improve all student learning. The data showed Big River staff members that they needed to revisit their vision. Teachers form Professional Learning Communities and meet at least once a week to study student data and student work, and to share best practices and lessons. The 2004–05 plan is a simple one designed to get all teachers teaching to the standards and implementing meaningful instructional practices to meet the needs of all learners. Teaching style and learning style inventories will be given to all teachers and students, respectively. The action plan includes strategies for ensuring that the shared vision is implemented in every classroom. Most school improvement plans that get implemented include at least thirty “Powerful Professional Development Designs” to assist with implementation.
