ABSTRACT

A team of second grade teachers met with the coach to determine what assess ments would be used at the district level to judge student mastery of math concepts and skills. Initially, teachers wanted a multiple-choice test that would be easy to score. Several members of the team attended an assessment workshop and recommended some constructed response journals prompts and a performance task. After meeting for four months, the team had a product, a collection of multiple-choice items, journal prompts, and a performance task with a scoring rubric. Members worked through their professional differences, teachers contributed to the project, and as a result, they have bought into the assessment plan.
