ABSTRACT

H aving faith in the coaching process requires us to take the first step: under­ standing and planning. W hen we begin to walk up a staircase, we don 't see every step bu t we need to trust in the process; it will take us to the landing. This first chapter defines and examines the role and responsibilities of a build ing m ath coach as a school leader and the im portance of developing professional learning communities. Given that each school and district initiative is unique, adm inistra­ tors and m ath coaches will need to determ ine w hat fits their specific site.
