ABSTRACT

In 1991, while working intensively with a group of schools that were looking for ways to improve their results, Education for the Future created questionnaires to help the schools understand their learning environments from the perspective of students, staffs, administrators, and parents. Today, Education for the Future continues to use updated versions of these questionnaires-across the United States as well as in other countries. This chapter describes how these questionnaires were developed and how they are used today. The content of the Education for the Future questionnaires was validated during the process of questionnaire development. Teacher questionnaire responses show the degree to which staffs work together to create a continuum of learning for all students, if there is a clear and shared vision, and if the administrators are adding value to school processes, from the perspective of staffs. The questionnaire results helped each of the schools improve its procedures and operations and get student achievement increases.
