ABSTRACT

In the persuasive prompt, the student is asked to set forth an argument. The argument is usually about something that students would understand and care about: some aspect of school or community life that affects young people, such as school uniforms, school and home rules, sports, driving issues, and so on. In some states, the persuasive prompt is connected to a quotation. The student is required to interpret the quotation, agree or disagree with it, and use evidence from real life as well as literature to support that opinion.
