ABSTRACT

Summary

In Chapter 4 I have provided a definition and explanation of the Value-Added Analysis (VAA) concept as well as a brief overview of its historical development and present day usage. VAA measures student “progress” or growth and when combined with traditional assessment metrics that measure proficiency or achievement we get a much better definition of a school’s effectiveness in enabling students to learn. VAA provides the necessary “power of two” as a means of accurately reporting and providing a basis for school accountability as well as providing “binocular vision” of individual student performance, growth and achievement. Some sample applications of VAA data to school improvement efforts have also been provided.
