ABSTRACT

In the writing phrase of the writing process, the students actually write their essay (Figure 8.1). They take their topic, their narrowed topic, their idea generation, and their organized ideas and transform these into a purposeful essay. With formative assessment, students are continually monitored, diagnosed, and given feedback so they grow in the writing skills required in the writing phase of the writing experience. Formative assessment enables all students to do well in their writing.
