ABSTRACT

Different schools reacted in different ways. Some principals placed the issue front and center. At the next faculty meeting, they asked for volunteers to be on a safety committee. Predictably, teachers hemmed and hawed until the two or three best teachers raised their hands. Again predictably, the committee worked very hard and developed a terrific disaster plan, complete with color-coded escape routes, tabbed references, community-wide contact people, and so on. The school was all set.
