ABSTRACT

We have seen how essential it is for principals to make decisions based on the superstar teachers on their staff. We must also understand how great principals deal with teachers at the other end of the spectrum. Allowing negative forces among faculty to simmer unchecked would eventually bring down even the most positive teachers, regardless of our best efforts to support them. Dealing with negativity may be the least enjoyable aspect of the principal’s job, but it is a critical leadership skill. And with the rapid and dramatic changes that are occurring in education, effective principals know they must address these blockades to improvement. If they do not do something about negative staff members, no one will.
