ABSTRACT

Progress occurs where there is a collective commitment to improvement and a parallel commitment to supporting people who take risks and make changes. First and foremost, teachers and principals must focus on improving the instructional experience of every student. Every student must be expected to learn and the staff must be committed to supporting students in their learning. Failure cannot be an option. School personnel must work with families and community members to assure that students have the resources to be successful in school, and families must be engaged in school life through participation in school governance and responsibility for student success.
