ABSTRACT

Many schools have one or two staff members who send 25 to 50 percent of all the students who are sent to the office for disciplinary reasons. In most cases, the students have commit ted minor infractions. Supporting these teachers is especially challenging, because their behavior is frequently as inappropri ate as that of the student. If you discipline the student and have no further dialogue with the teacher, you have told the teacher that it is acceptable to send students to the office for minor offenses . You may even send the message that teachers are supposed to refer students for these offenses.
