ABSTRACT

There was more to worry about in 1949, however, than the losses on British-made films. It was in 1949, according to Fred Majdalany, that most people stopped going to the pictures regularly, and went only to see particular films. Box-office receipts took a downward trend. Probably most exhibitors realized that the post-war boom must eventually end. For almost a decade they had queues almost every evening. Now they had queues only on Saturday evenings, and sometimes even then they were late in forming.
