ABSTRACT

The revolver is not a common or garden toy in Great Britain as it is in the Wild and Woolly West of America, in Mexico, in the South American revolutionary republics, and other somewhat lawless comers of the universe. Pictures of revolver shooting in such-like places, when reproduced on the cinematograph screen, may cause innocent amusement. Of a certainty the most youthful and romantic member of the audience would never be moved by such films to emulate the actor on the screen; nevertheless, there exist croakers who would have us believe that this new and thrilling world of sensation has the effect of a “penny dreadful” upon the youthful Briton, and imbues him with a desire for mischief that eventually terminates in crime.
