ABSTRACT

Recently, when asked whose economy would be the strongest in 75 years, most of a group of Nobel-prize winning economists selected China. Not many of the economists thought the United States would be a contender for that title in 75 years because both China and the European Union will have larger populations and better educated workers. These thoughts were noted by Christine Culver, a federal education official in remarks she made to a gathering of citizens in Lawrence, Kansas. She also mentioned that for every engineer who graduates from a U.S. college, 40 graduate in China (Fox, 2004).
