ABSTRACT
First, let’s take a minute to clarify what “higher-order thinking skills” (or HOTS) actually means. It is commonly thought of as the ability to apply knowledge and concepts to problem solving and critical thinking. In effect, it is the construction of new knowledge (“Higher-Order Thinking,” 2004). By developing these higher-order thinking skills, students are more likely to be able to apply what they know to new situations.
