Consider differentiating the level of texts with you next unit. This can be done in any subject area, at any grade level. Take some time to research alternatives to the central text used in class. You may want to work with other teachers on this activity. One good source of information for readability levels is www.lexile.com. You may also choose to try this with information articles rather than books. Many electronic databases of articles also use Lexile levels.
