ABSTRACT

The next three strategies operate during reading to help the reader extract meaning from text. If the strategies work, they will hook up with the before-reading strategies to help the reader extract meaning from text.

The strategies keep the reader engaged and focused on the purpose for reading.

They use the reader’s prior knowledge to continue to make meaningful connections.

They allow the reader to be aware when concentration and comprehension break down and have the ability to do what is necessary to repair gaps in comprehension.
