ABSTRACT
This is the before-reading strategy of establishing a purpose for reading. A key difference between successful and unsuccessful readers in school is that the former adjust their reading pace and mindset in accordance with a known purpose for reading. The latter group does not adjust pace to suit the purpose because when they approach a reading task, they don’t really know what they are looking for.
