ABSTRACT

Walk into a Passion-Driven Clubhouse Classroom and you will see writing, blogging, sketching, and labeling of learning that students and teacher have encountered in the past 24 hours. We call this part of the daily Opening Message, “Learning Now!” Students are instructed to search for new or interesting information and have it ready for the Boardroom meeting. After this, you will see them gathered in Learning Club groups until the Boardroom meeting is conducted. Even though this routine is labeled the Opening Message, the routine is geared to sharing current or past learning. Perhaps it is something interesting and important a student has learned about world history while working in one of the Learning Clubs. Or, it could be an awareness of an important current event; for example, the number of earthquakes occurring around the world and the possible implications.
