ABSTRACT

This toddler, shown with an iPad, was born into a high-tech world. Thus, her experiences are likely to be quite different from those of individuals in previous generations. Children today are much more technologically advanced than prior age cohorts, with their cell phones, voicemail, MP3 players, cable and satellite television, movies on demand, and laptop computers. Most children (84%) have Internet access at home and spend an average of one to two hours per day on the computer. About a fourth of this time is spent visiting social network sites, such as Facebook.
