ABSTRACT
Flash mobs take breaching (norm violation) experiments to a new level, as participants collectively act in manner that makes it diffi cult for people to maintain their sense of a coherent and meaningful reality. Flash mobs are typically organized using electronic communications, including email, social media, and cell phones. Participants arrive at the designated scene and engage in preplanned behaviors that disrupt the normative order and leave people surprised and, in many cases, amused.
