ABSTRACT

With this book, I have endeavoured to move the discourse around the entanglement of sex, love and money beyond the market-based ‘sex work’ framework. As the previous chapters have revealed, such a framework is not always appropriate for analysing relationships that are sometimes more multi-layered and involve sex linked to a wider set of obligations. Instead, the framework of professional girlfriends, transactional sex and the materiality of everyday relationships provides a more nuanced analytical lexicon.
