ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the current practices of knowledge-based management in the context of cities and their regions. This is carried out by two means. First, the existing literature concerning the knowledge-based management of cities and their regions is reviewed. This provides a wide overview of various managerial approaches in different contexts. Second, the knowledge-based management challenges and practices of a case city and its region are presented and analyzed to explore the theme in more detail and under particular contextual conditions. Thus, this chapter aims to contribute in particular to the fourth main objective of the book: How knowledge in knowledge-cities and their regions can be managed?
