ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a glimpse of the opportunity space for the expanding field of learning and gamified systems (GS) design. It explores a variety of projects to get a better sense of the processes unique to learning-based GS. The chapter explains the people behind them to get a better perspective of how games and learning converge at school, at work, at home and within the cultural institutions they visit and interact with. GS enable and benefit from the participation of experts in a particular field, like mathematics and math education. Primary, secondary and increasingly post-secondary teachers incorporate GS into their classrooms for a multitude of reasons. Educators are increasingly connected to broader learning systems, to map their curriculum to learning outcomes, and create a structure designed to provide plenty of opportunities for students to learn and apply their knowledge.
