ABSTRACT

It is gene rally recognised tliat French differs from many other languages in that it has three artic1es, namely a deftnite, an indefmite and a partitive artic1e. However, the distinetion between the indefinite and the partitive artic1e is sometimes difficult and explanations of French grammars are often unc1ear on that point. One of the purposes of this chapter is to give a morphological description of the French article system.
