ABSTRACT

Carbon emissions are reduced to increase the energy efficiency of operating buildings, by increasing the level of output for each unit of energy input. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol is intended for use by individual companies, but also for adoption by national governments and others as a standard for use by organisations, in both the public and private sectors, operating under their jurisdiction. Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines provide a means for any company to disclose its sustainability performance against a wide range of indicators in environmental, human rights, labour practices and decent works, society, product responsibility and economic categories. Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a global reporting platform that collects and publishes data on carbon emissions, using the GHG protocol methodology. Some buildings clearly operate more efficiently than others as a result of the success, or otherwise, of space planning, environmental conditions, user comfort and the ease of maintenance and repair, among many other interconnected factors.
