ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. This book provides an in-depth understanding of how the Chinese real estate market has developed and gained such an important role in the Chinese economy and now is generating some serious structural problems. The Chinese real estate market consists of three main parts, the land market, the housing market and the commercial property market, each of which has its own characteristics. The book describes and analyses the development of the land, housing and commercial real estate markets. It then focuses on land administration, planning and development control, macro control of the housing market to rein in housing price inflation, regulation of the real estate finance market and taxation on real estate. The book also provides a synthesis of current and forthcoming regulatory and market changes that shape the future direction of the Chinese property market.
