ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on some of the issues, techniques, and processes for using music technologies to create, synchronize, and deliver music and sound for productions involving collaborations with other art forms. In the chapter the term film will be used as a shorthand for all time-based movie image forms, including TV, video, and animation. The digital process has made synchronization much easier to the point where it is an almost transparent process in computer-based editing. The chapter focuses on how music for theatre productions can be enhanced using music technologies. Dance productions are often contemporary and experimental which makes them ideal for using electronic music and exploratory techniques. The music producer and dance choreographer can forge strong collaborations because both art forms have a degree of abstractness that provides flexibility. Audiovisual art works might have visuals and sound created by the one artist, particularly in digital arts that reflect the convergence of art forms and digital space.
