ABSTRACT

The distinguishing feature of industrial lighting is the great variety of tasks and situations to be accommodated. The large range of illuminance levels, limiting Glare Rating values and special requirements, such as colour discrimination, make careful examination of the visual tasks important. To this are added the different types of building structure encountered, which are sometimes dictated by the machinery, materials and manufactured products that must be handled. In some areas large machines or travelling cranes, moving heavy objects, are present, whereas in others there is close work by teams of operators working at long, well-illuminated benches.
