ABSTRACT
Immersed in European spatial planning as I am, when approached to write on Peter Hall’s Europe 2000, I wondered what the editors could have meant. To the best of my knowledge, Peter had not been a contributor to the ‘Outlook for the Development of the Community’s Territory,’ being the subtitle of a key report by the European Commission (CEC, 1991) under this very same title. The editors’ reply was that Peter had a much earlier book (Hall, 1977) under the very same title to his name! Quite suddenly I remembered having seen it in the bookcase overflowing with copies in various languages of his works in his room at the University of Reading. At the time I was not into things European, so it had disappeared from my radar. Europe 2000 Peter Hall style is now squarely on it.
