ABSTRACT

Every company’s activities have an effect on the environment. Many companies – especially larger ones – have a corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability policy, which includes overarching aims in respect of a variety of environmental factors. Typically, these aims include:

complying with environmental legislation, and relevant standards and codes of practice;

improving the organisation’s environmental performance;

preventing or, if not possible, minimising pollution;

maximising energy efficiency;

conserving resources;

improving recycling activities and diverting waste from landfill; and

increasing environmental awareness among employees.
