ABSTRACT

There are sixteen essential elements and all except carbon and oxygen are usually taken up by the plant's root system from the soil solution (see p. 131). Plant nutrients are the form by which the plant can access these elements. A summary of all the major and minor elements is given in Table 11.1 which also provides an indication of how much of each is in a healthy plant. Although they are primarily taken up by the root they can be taken in through other parts of the plant – for example, in foliar feeding.
