ABSTRACT

The reality of using multiple media servers on a production is commonplace today, and synchronizing content to play simultaneously on several servers without losing sync can be a very big headache unless you use a server that allows you to sync frames between servers. One method of 'syncing' multiple servers without using a network is to program a few 'reference' cues on people's lighting console; these cues contain a Digital MultipleX (DMX) value for a specific frame of the clip. When that cue is played, all of the media servers controlled by the cue will be 'synced' again, and realigned to the same frame. Syncing media servers can also be achieved over a network as well. Using a catalyst as an example, the servers can be connected via a network, and one of the servers can be designated as the main server on the network.
