ABSTRACT

Many media servers allow the programmer to take virtually any piece of content and wrap it around a 3D object. Imagine taking that corporate logo and wrapping it around a box or a banner. Every 3D object has three coordinates: X, Y, and Z. Each of these coordinates controls the physical location in space for the object. By manipulating any of these three coordinates, the object can be made to appear to change size, disappear from the screen, and even rotate around its own center point. The Mbox Extreme is a good example of a server with controls for spatial attributes like Z coordinate. Many media servers also allow images to be mapped to 3D objects, so creating custom objects can be an exciting way of creating something visually unique. Media server programmers who wish to create their own 3D objects may be able to use applications like Blender, Cinema 4D, Maya, and 3DS Max.
