ABSTRACT

Many media servers support audio output, and typically the server will be enabled or disabled via a channel within the Digital MultipleX (DMX) protocol, so it can easily be turned on or off for each clip as needed. For some servers though, a different method of enabling audio may be required, as is the case for MBox Designer. When programming with a media server, people will be asked whether the media server can output audio because the client would like to use a clip. Most media servers come with a factory installed sound card, and the output connector on that audio card is usually referred to as a mini-jack. A mono connector only transmits the audio signal down one channel, while stereo transmits audio down both channels. Media server which people are using always consults the user manual for the recommended audio formats for the server. Just like formats for video, not all servers use the same format for audio.
